- The Hungarian government has published a photo of money and gold seized from Ukrainians.
On March 6, the Hungarian government showed photos of cash and gold seized from Ukrainian citizens. The footage was posted on the official Facebook page of the Cabinet of Ministers (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).
The publication is accompanied by pictures of bundles of currency and precious metal bars. In the message, the transportation operation is called the "Ukrainian golden convoy."
Earlier in the day, the Hungarian National Tax and Customs Service (NAV) announced the detention in Hungary of seven Ukrainians, including an ex-general of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), who were transporting cash from Austria. The detained cars contained $40 million, €35 million and 9 kg of gold, the Telex portal said.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga accused Hungary of allegedly seizing seven Ukrainian employees of the bank. According to him, they serviced two bank wagons that run between Austria and Ukraine and transport cash as part of regular transactions between state-owned banks.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, in turn, demanded that Ukraine explain the incident with the illegal transportation of money. According to the diplomat, since January 2026, $900 million, 420 million euros and 146 kg of gold have been transported through Hungary. These shipments were accompanied by people who are clearly connected with the special services of Kiev.
The representative of the Hungarian government, Zoltan Kovacs, announced on the same day that seven Ukrainian citizens detained in Hungary while transporting currency from Austria would be deported during the day.
