- Zakharova called the attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian nuclear facilities "nuclear blackmail"
The attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on Russian nuclear facilities are blackmail, in which, in addition to Kiev, Western countries and the North Atlantic Alliance are taking part. This was announced on Friday, March 6, by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"The attacks on the nuclear power plant (NPP), in particular the Zaporizhia NPP, were considered by the Kiev regime as a way of nuclear blackmail. We have not seen from the curators of the Kiev regime, <...> those who gave him money, who created him politically, not a word of condemnation, not a word of blocking," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Zakharova stressed that the designated actors sponsoring the Armed Forces of Ukraine have not cut their funding or reduced their political support. According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, they did not condemn the Ukrainian side for its actions.
"This is a conspiracy between Westerners, NATO members and the Kiev regime to manipulate the topic and the nuclear issue both for political purposes and directly on the ground," she summed up.
On February 10, Ukrainian armed groups attacked the Energy Depot, which is why the Ferroalloy-1 power transmission line feeding the nuclear power plant was turned off. Then it was reported about the damaged main pipeline of the heating main, which was responsible for supplying heat to residential buildings and social facilities. Later, on February 27, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev noted that a local silence regime had been established at the NPP in connection with repairs at the temporarily inactive facility.
On March 2, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, commenting on the situation at the NPP, called it extremely difficult. He also said that representatives of the IAEA were on the territory of all the nearest nuclear power plants, where they monitored the safety and reliability of facilities. Later, on March 5, the agency announced the restoration of Ferroalloy-1, and the next day, its connection to the nuclear power plant.
