The expert warned about a possible ban on foreign-language pseudonyms for artists

Artists in Russia may be banned from using their own foreign pseudonyms if they have not been registered with Rospatent as of March 1. This was announced on March 6 by Alina Akinshina, CEO of Online Patent.

The restrictions apply, among other things, to the use of pseudonyms for the production of merchandise.

"There are no substantive explanations from Rospotrebnadzor on the application of the new norm to such situations yet. However, according to the general meaning of the law, there is theoretically a risk for artists using English—language pseudonyms without trademark registration," Akinshina said.
