The expert assessed the consequences of the fall of the Iranian drone in Nakhichevan

The incident with the downing of an Iranian drone in Nakhichevan is capable of increasing tensions in the region, but its consequences will depend on the results of the investigation and the reaction of the parties. Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia about this on March 5.

According to him, the fall of the Iranian drone may have a negative impact on relations between the parties, but it is premature to draw final conclusions, since the incident requires additional investigation.

"If the parties are interested in really sorting out this situation, then at least efforts will be made to really identify the true causes," Denisov said.

The expert also noted that any such incidents negatively affect the overall security situation in the region. However, given the ongoing military tension, such an episode is unlikely to be a key factor capable of significantly changing the balance of power. In his opinion, this is rather one of the incidents against the background of a more general conflict.

Commenting on the reaction of other countries, in particular Turkey, the expert noted that it is likely to be negative, given the close allied relations between Ankara and Baku. At the same time, the perception of the situation in Turkey is also related to the general policy around Iran.

"On the one hand, Iran is perceived as one of Turkey's key regional competitors and opponents. On the other hand, as far as can be judged from the statements in Turkey itself, not everyone there agrees that Iran should be zeroed out altogether in the form of a regional force due to the strengthening of Israel," he concluded.

How to beat: when Iran will lose the ability to launch missiles

Tehran has already lost a significant part of its launchers, but its ability to resist is not limited to them.

The APA news agency reported on the same day that a drone launched from Iran crashed into the airport of the Azerbaijani city of Nakhichevan. The Axar news portal added that another drone crashed near a school building in the same city. Classes have been suspended in two educational institutions.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stressed that the incidents contradict international law and lead to increased tension in the region. The Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, a strong protest was made and a note will be handed to him. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry condemned the attacks on the country's civilian infrastructure, blamed Tehran and added that it was preparing response measures to protect the sovereignty and security of citizens.
