The scammers began extorting the personal data of residents of apartment buildings, posing as employees of Mosenergosbyt in communal chats. Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for the public examination of draft laws and other regulations, told about this on March 5.

"In communal chats, as a rule, in Telegram channels, information is distributed from the alleged Mosenergosbyt account that a recalculation for utility bills is being carried out. Consumers are asked to check the data in the lists and inform in this chat that the information is correct or changes are required. Next is a list of tenants with their full names and dates of birth, that is, personal data," he said in an interview with TASS.
