White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said on March 4 that Spain would still cooperate with the US military. According to her, the Spanish authorities made this decision after a "clear and unambiguous" message from US President Donald Trump.

"As far as I know, over the past few hours they have agreed to cooperate with the US military, so I know that the US military is coordinating with their Spanish counterparts," Levitt said.

She also added that the American president expects cooperation from all European allies.

Just a few hours earlier, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said in response to Trump's threats that he was against the war in Iran.

On March 3, Trump announced that the United States intends to end trade relations with Spain in response to the country's refusal to increase military spending. He also said that Spain does not have anything that the United States would need. According to the politician, the Spaniards have excellent people, but the country's leadership is not.
