Bloomberg pointed to Qatar's loss of its status as a reliable LNG supplier due to Iran

Qatar has lost its status as a reliable supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) amid the situation in Iran. This was reported by Bloomberg on March 4.

"The suspension of supplies from Qatar is unprecedented in scale and scope. In the short term, this will force everyone who needs LNG to raise import rates from the United States," said Ira Joseph, senior researcher at Columbia University's Center for Global Energy Policy.

According to the newspaper, Qatar's energy minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi is also facing the "biggest crisis of his career" after an Iranian drone attack forced him to suspend work at the flagship LNG facility in Ras Laffan.

It clarifies that LNG imports from the United States can change the attitude of buyers towards Qatar in terms of the security of liquefied natural gas supplies.

The Qatari state-owned company QatarEnergy stopped LNG production on March 2 amid Israeli and US strikes on Iran and Tehran's retaliatory actions. It was noted that LNG production in Qatar, equivalent to about 20% of the global supply, has been stopped proactively. The country is the second largest exporter of LNG in the world after the United States and plays a key role in balancing the Asian and European markets.
