- The State Duma announced the possibility for Russians to return 19.5 thousand rubles for sports
Russian citizens can annually refund up to 19.5 thousand rubles in the form of a tax deduction for sports expenses. This was announced on March 4 by Dmitry Svishchev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports (LDPR).
"The state tells citizens: play sports, it's useful, it's important, it prolongs life. And he doesn't just talk, but motivates people to do it with real money. You can get up to 19.5 thousand rubles per year. Sport is an investment in health. And the tax deduction is the return of part of these investments by the state," Svishchev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Tax residents of the Russian Federation who pay personal income tax at the rate of 13% or 15% can apply for a refund. This category will include those who are employed, those who rent out property and receive income from investments. He clarified that the self—employed, individual entrepreneurs on special regimes - simplified tax, patent or unified agricultural tax, as well as the unemployed and non-residents cannot claim the deduction.
The maximum amount from which the refund is calculated is 150 thousand rubles per year. This is the general limit for all social deductions (sports, medical treatment, education).
"The maximum refund of 19.5 thousand rubles is provided to those whose total sports expenses have reached or exceeded 150 thousand rubles per year. This may be a combination of costs for oneself, children and retired parents," the deputy explained.
Svishchev added that starting in 2026, a tax deduction can be obtained for paying for sports activities for oneself, for children under 18 or up to 24 years of age in full-time education, as well as for retired parents due to old age, disability, and loss of breadwinner.
"It is important to understand that the deduction is provided to each parent within their own limit. If both spouses work and pay personal income tax, the family can return up to 39 thousand rubles a year. The sports deduction is combined with other social deductions for medical treatment, education, and non-governmental pension provision. The total limit for all these directions is 150 thousand rubles per year. If you have several children, the cost of their classes is within the same limit," he explained.
To receive the payment, the organization must be included in the special list of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, and the instructions for registration are available on the Gosuslugi portal and in the taxpayer's personal account.
"A crucial point is that all documents must be issued to the person who claims the deduction. If you pay for sports for your mother, the certificate and the contract must be in your name," Dmitry Svishchev warned.
On February 26, the State Duma recalled the right of Russians affected by ice to receive compensation. Svishchev clarified that based on modern judicial practice, victims of a fall on a slippery road manage to recover up to 300-350 thousand rubles.
