On March 3, Rosfinmonitoring added the Makhoninsky organized criminal group (OCG), which includes 16 individuals, to the list of terrorists and extremists.

On March 1, investigators of the Investigative Committee and employees of the regional Directorate of the FSB detained Andrei Makhonin, who was previously put on the federal and international wanted list, who is one of the organizers of the Makhoninsky criminal community (recognized as extremist, his activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation). He was detained in the Kaslinsky district of the Chelyabinsk region, the UK Telegram channel reported.

The investigation found that the Mahonin brothers had created a criminal community to commit serious and especially serious crimes, most of them aimed at stealing property from residents of the region. An acting official of the internal affairs bodies was involved in the commission of certain crimes.

The reason for adding the organization to the list of extremists and terrorists was a lawsuit filed by the prosecutor's office, which shows that the participants adhere to the views and ideas of the movement "Arrest Criminal Unity" (AUE, an extremist social movement banned in Russia).

On October 26, 2025, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation filed a lawsuit, according to which it demanded that the Makhoninsky association be recognized as extremist and its activities banned.

Later, the Chelyabinsk court granted the administrative claim of the Prosecutor General's Office and recognized the association as extremist. In addition, he decided to transfer the property of the organization, the value of which reached about 2.5 billion rubles, to the state revenue.
