FT revealed details of Israeli intelligence surveillance of Khamenei
The assassination of Iran's leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei became possible due to information from surveillance cameras that Israeli intelligence hacked many years ago. This was reported on March 3 by the Financial Times newspaper.
"We knew Tehran as well as Jerusalem. And when you know [the place] It's just as good as the street you grew up on, you notice at least one discrepancy," the newspaper quoted a current Israeli intelligence officer as saying.
According to the two interlocutors, Israeli intelligence hacked traffic surveillance cameras in Tehran. The images from the cameras were encrypted and sent to servers located in Tel Aviv. The publication adds that one of the cameras allowed to see the place where cars are parked near Khamenei's residence on Pasteur Street. This helped intelligence understand the principle of the complex's operation. Israel and the CIA were able to determine exactly what time Khamenei would be in his office.
The newspaper's interlocutors reported that Israel was able to disable individual components of about a dozen communication towers near Pasteur Street so that Khamenei's guards could not receive possible warnings.
Israeli Mossad intelligence and special forces units conducted a ground operation in Iran on the night of Tuesday, March 3. The Fars news agency reported on the same day that the United States and Israel struck near the building of the Iranian State Television and Radio Company in Tehran. At the same time, the Tasnim agency reported that the broadcast was working without violations, and the broadcasts of programs on TV were continuing.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation in Iran. US President Donald Trump called it the goal of protecting the American people. Israel and the United States have carried out numerous attacks on military and civilian targets in Iran, including a school in the city of Minab. The largest Iranian cities, including Tehran, were hit. The Supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died.
