- The authorities of Yessentuki will deal with the fight against signs in a foreign language
The Yessentuki City Hall will launch a campaign to combat signs in a foreign language on the streets of the city. The head of Yessentuki, Vladimir Krutnikov, addressed the entrepreneurs with explanations of the new law prohibiting the use of foreign words without duplication in Russian.
Amendments to federal legislation making the Russian language mandatory and a priority for all public information entered into force on March 1. From now on, an entrepreneur is obliged to translate a foreign word into Russian when using it on a signboard or in an advertisement. It must be the same size, color, and font as the original inscription.
It is permissible to leave a foreign word only if it is a registered trademark or it is registered as a brand name, writes IA StavropolMedia with reference to Krutnikov.
The mayor warned that the specialists of the advertising department will monitor compliance with the new standards. Materials on violations will be sent to Rospotrebnadzor and the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
The agency writes that such inspections will not be carried out in Stavropol. The mayor's office said that they are organized only on complaints.
