Legendary playwright Nikolai Kolyada died after a week in a coma
At the age of 69, the legendary playwright, actor and director Nikolai Kolyada died. Denis Pasler, Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, announced the death of the creator and permanent head of the Kolyada Theater on March 2.
"This is an irreparable loss not only for the Sverdlovsk region, but for the whole of Russia. An outstanding playwright, actor, and director Nikolai Vladimirovich Kolyada has passed away," Pasler wrote on his Telegram channel.
The playwright was hospitalized from his apartment on February 25. Despite the efforts of the doctors of the intensive care unit, who connected the director to a ventilator and put him into a drug-induced sleep, it was not possible to save him.
Kolyada is the author of more than a hundred plays staged on stages around the world. In 2001, he founded the famous Kolyada Theater, which has become a hallmark of Ural culture.
The governor stressed that the playwright's name and his theater festival in Yekaterinburg have long gained international fame.
The actor's last film work was the romantic comedy "Tulips". The film will be released in wide release on the eve of International Women's Day on March 5, 2026.
