Starting from April 1, the State Standard (GOST) for potato chips will be introduced in Russia for the first time. Izvestia got acquainted with the text of the document on March 2.
"By Order No. 1448-st of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology dated November 20, 2025, the interstate standard GOST 35059-2024 entered into force as the national standard of the Russian Federation from April 1, 2026," the text of the document says.
GOST will regulate the appearance, consistency, taste and smell, as well as the color of the product. Physico-chemical parameters, namely the fat and salt content, will be evaluated separately. In addition to Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan joined the GOST.
Elena Myasnikova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Food Technology and Bioengineering at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, announced on February 26 that the GOST for beer 2012 will be replaced next year by a new standard that expands the possibilities of using different types of malt in the creation of this foamy drink. According to her, rye, buckwheat, millet and oat malt will be allowed to be used in beer production. The expert stressed that compliance with the regulations remains voluntary.
