- The political scientist called the consequences of declaring jihad against the United States and Israel
The statement by the influential Shiite theologian Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi about jihad against the United States and Israel takes the Middle East confrontation beyond the interstate and gives it the character of a religious war. This is the opinion in a conversation with Lenta. This was stated by Alexander Perendzhiev, a military expert, associate professor of the Department of Political Analysis and Socio-Psychological Processes at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
"The declaration of jihad is no longer just a war between states. A holy war is declared under the banner of the Prophet Muhammad. In other words, this is essentially a religious war being declared," he stressed.
According to him, the adoption of the fatwa could lead to a full-scale expansion of the conflict, affecting not only Shiites, but also Sunnis.
"This will be a very serious moment for the United States and Israel, because it is one thing to fight against the state, another thing is to fight against if not all Muslims, then at least against all Shiites in the world," the expert concluded.
Perendzhiev also noted that a significant Shiite community lives in Iraq, and it will have to respond to the call. According to his forecasts, at the initial stage, jihad may be limited to the territory of Iran and part of Iraq.
