Russia demands that Britain prevent Ukraine from acquiring nuclear weapons. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to the kingdom, Andrei Kelin, in an interview with the news agency Vesti.

According to the diplomat, the topic of Kiev's possible acquisition of a nuclear arsenal is being actively discussed in the British media. In addition, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, publicly addressed her.

"We demand that the British not only abandon such plans, if they have any, but also carefully ensure that this does not happen in any case," Kelin said.

As noted by the Russian ambassador to Britain, the Ukrainian leader stated that the country should acquire its own nuclear potential if it does not become a member of NATO. Kelin stressed that London risks provoking a nuclear confrontation if it supports Kiev's desire to obtain such weapons.

On the same day, Kelin already announced the desire of London and Paris to strengthen their positions by transferring nuclear weapons to Kiev. The ambassador recalled that Zelensky himself had previously declared nuclear ambitions. According to the ambassador, he spoke about the possession of nuclear weapons as an alternative to joining NATO.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 24 that Russia's opponents, who "do not disdain any means," understand how an attempt to use nuclear weapons can end. He added that Western countries are trying to disrupt the peace negotiation process in this way.
