The total number of participants in the XVII Spartakiad among federal authorities exceeded 2 thousand people. This was announced on February 27 by Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports and head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).

He noted that on February 27, 2026, Moscow hosted the opening of the 18th Spartakiad among federal government authorities of the Russian Federation and the first All-Russian open Spartakiad for government, civil and municipal employees.

The Russian Sports Minister read out the welcoming speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stressed that the competitions strengthen traditions and bring together more and more participants every year, reaching an all-Russian scale. He stressed the importance of developing physical education in the country and setting an inspiring example for civil servants and municipal workers.

"From January to December 2025, you competed at the best sports venues in the capital and the Moscow region. More than 60 teams took part. The total number of participants exceeded 2,000 people," Degtyarev said.

He added that the competitions were held in 10 Olympic sports. The football tournament became especially popular, and swimming, in which over 240 people participated, aroused the greatest interest among individual disciplines.

Degtyarev told Izvestia on February 25 that Russian athletes were fully preparing for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. According to him, before the competition in the United States, the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar will be held, to which Russians have already been invited.
