Netflix refuses to buy assets of Warner Bros. Discovery
The streaming company Netflix has officially refused to buy the Warner Bros. studio. Discovery (WBD). This was announced on February 26 by the company's press service.
The WBD Board of Directors recognized Paramount's offer as more profitable. Netflix has indicated that it is not ready to increase the amount of the offer above $83 million.
The company stressed that at the initial stage the transaction was considered as a way to create shareholder value and had prospects of obtaining regulatory approval. But the further price increase due to Paramount's offer made it almost impossible for Netflix to acquire the studio. The streaming company has been trying to buy back assets since December 2025.
The company thanked the management and the board of directors of WBD for organizing the sales process and decided to withdraw from the bidding process.
The New York Times reported on February 15 that the WBD board of directors is considering resuming negotiations with Paramount on February 15 after the latter submitted an updated purchase offer. WBD management is discussing whether Paramount's initiative could lead to a better deal compared to the previously agreed terms with Netflix.
