A search has begun in Bangkok for Alexander Marchenko, a Russian citizen who disappeared in mid-February. This was announced on February 26 by the leader of a group of Russian volunteers, Arseny Kamyshev.

"We are looking for Russian Alexander Marchenko, born in 2000, who disappeared in early February from the town where he lived in northern Thailand, then suddenly turned up in mid—February at the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Bangkok," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Kamyshev noted that Marchenko came to the embassy without documents and money. According to him, two days after his appearance at the diplomatic mission, he disappeared again.

According to the leader of the volunteer group, the missing Russian lived in the district center of Chiang Tao and was a teacher at a local school. He added that Russians living in Bangkok and working in northern Thailand joined the search.

Police in the Thai city of Pattaya reported on February 1 that Russian Mikhail Yemelyanov, who went missing in the Thai resort city of Pattaya in early January, was found dead.

Khaosod reported on the same day that two Russian citizens had been arrested in Thailand on suspicion of the premeditated murder of Yemelyanov. The suspects are 35‑year-old Yaroslav Demidov and 38‑year-old Dmitry Maskalev: the investigation found that they had been in contact with the victim before her disappearance and tried to hide the traces of the crime.
