- The State Duma told about the concentration of fraudsters in the largest cities of the country
Scammers most often call residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as industrial centers, southern and Far Eastern regions. This was announced on February 27 by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
"Today's cybercrime statistics show that phone scammers primarily focus on the country's largest agglomerations. The largest number of suspicious calls is traditionally recorded in Moscow and St. Petersburg," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
He clarified that scammers choose these cities because of their high incomes and high population density. According to the deputy, this is the widest "funnel" of victims for intruders.
Nemkin also added that scammers also often turn their attention to Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan and Krasnodar. Small and medium-sized enterprises, entrepreneurs, and the self-employed are active in these regions, which increases the likelihood of using various social engineering schemes, including calls from the bank's "security service" or fake checks from law enforcement agencies.
Separately, he highlighted the growing number of fraudulent calls in the southern and Far Eastern regions, such as Rostov-on-Don and Vladivostok. This is due to the active migration of the population, the development of logistics and foreign economic activity.
