German court bans calling AFD a right-wing extremist organization

According to the decision of the administrative court in Cologne, the Federal Office for the Protection of the German Constitution (Counterintelligence, BfV) does not yet have the right to officially name the Alternative for Germany party (AfG) as a right-wing extremist organization and take related measures. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on February 26.

The court considered the complaint of the AfD party against the decision of the BfV of May 2025, according to which it was recognized as right-wing extremist. An injunction issued by the court prohibits the agency from using this label until a final decision is made on the case.
