Iran has offered the United States a temporary freeze on uranium enrichment as part of the Geneva talks on its nuclear program. The former Deputy Vice President of Iran for Strategic Affairs, Hassan Karimi, told Al Jazeera on February 26.

"Iran may temporarily suspend highly efficient uranium enrichment in order to build confidence and take further steps. But it's not free, and in return, he has to make various concessions, especially regarding the lifting of sanctions," he said in an interview.

Karimi added that Iran has leverage over uranium enrichment, and Tehran and Washington agree on the republic's lack of nuclear weapons.

Karimi noted that there can be no discussion of Iran's missile programs, especially against the background of the build-up of American weapons in the Middle East.

The third round of indirect Iranian-American negotiations on the nuclear dossier started on February 26 with the mediation of Oman in Geneva. The Iranian delegation was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Abbas Araqchi, and the American delegation was headed by the special envoy of the head of the White House Stephen Witkoff.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 19 that Russia sees an "unprecedented escalation" around Iran and hopes for a diplomatic solution to the conflict with the United States.
