On February 26, Polish President Karol Nawrocki proposed that Germany pay Warsaw reparations for World War II with supplies of military equipment.

"My proposal to the German state was clear and simple: Germany should start paying reparations by investing in military equipment to be used by the Polish army," Do Rzeczy quoted him as saying.

As the Polish leader emphasized, if Germany had started paying reparations, even in the form of military equipment, Warsaw might not have had to talk about the SAFE defense program.

Last December, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that if Germany did not resolve the issue of paying reparations to Poland for the Nazi occupation, Warsaw would resolve the issue itself with funds from its budget. Navrotsky criticized Tusk's idea and called on him to apologize.
