During the day, 214 traffic accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 12 people were killed and 270 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on February 26 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

There were 10 accidents involving buses, in which there were no fatalities, but 15 road users needed medical attention. Half of the bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

As a result of 71 accidents, 36 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 35 outside their area of operation, one pedestrian was killed, and 73 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 20 underage pedestrians, 12 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

Over the past day, 28 accidents involving minors have been registered on Russian roads, in which 29 young road users, including nine passengers, were injured. One child, a pedestrian, was killed.

So, in a courtyard in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a 23-year-old minivan driver, while driving downhill on a slippery road, ran over a 13-year-old schoolgirl who was walking in the opposite direction, after which the minivan ran over a parked car and stopped. The schoolgirl died. According to the preliminary reason, the accident occurred due to the fact that the culprit did not choose the speed appropriate to the road and meteorological conditions, as a result of which he could not stop in time.

The State Traffic Inspectorate warned motorists that in winter they should be extremely careful when driving a vehicle, avoid sudden rash maneuvers and lane changes on roads slippery with snow or ice.

The ministry called on drivers to strictly follow the rules of the road and be more attentive on the roads of settlements and cities. Especially when turning into the surrounding area and driving in a residential area, near preschool and school organizations, as well as sports facilities. When approaching such places, it is recommended to slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to have time to stop and let pedestrians pass.

"People should be extremely careful when driving at intersections and pedestrian crossings. When stopping in front of a regulated pedestrian crosswalk, never rush to start moving even when the traffic light allows you to do so — first make sure that the crossing in front of you is completely free from pedestrian traffic participants," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, Head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

On February 21, it became known from the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia that Moscow became the leader in road safety in 2025. According to the ministry, the death toll in road accidents in the capital was 2.2 people per 100,000 population. This is the lowest level among all Russian regions.
