- Zakharova called Kiev's termination of transit through Druzhba a threat to EU security
The blocking of oil transit through the Druzhba main oil pipeline from Ukraine poses a threat to the energy security of Hungary, Slovakia and the whole of Europe. This was stated on February 26 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing.
According to her, these actions threaten the energy security of these countries and the European continent as a whole.
"This action by the Kiev regime has caused a just indignation of the Hungarian and Slovak authorities. They regarded such actions by the Kiev regime as a direct encroachment on their sovereignty. And against this background, there is a lack of proper reaction from European institutions, which seem to be guarding the interests of their member countries, and the absence of any reaction to the Ukrainian attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline," she said.
Zakharova also expressed surprise at the inaction of Brussels, noting that the European Union (EU), by not responding to the cutoff of oil supplies, demonstrates disregard for the problems of the member states of the union with the "wrong" course. She stressed that such actions pose risks to the stable energy supply of European countries and emphasize the need to respond to crisis situations in the energy market.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov yesterday called Kiev's actions with the Druzhba oil pipeline sabotage. According to him, Moscow sees the consistent position of Budapest and Bratislava, which defend their interests.
On the same day, Orban demanded that the EU check the condition of the Druzhba pipeline. It was specified that the group should include experts from Hungary and Slovakia.
