Western satellites, including those of the United States, cannot determine the location of Russian submarines in the Arctic. This was announced on February 26 by a military expert, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin.

"In the Arctic, under the ice, they are not visible from above — not a single Western reconnaissance satellite, primarily an American one, can determine where our submarine is located," Litovkin said in an interview with TASS.

He noted that Russian submarines can attack enemy boats from small holes in the ice cover, as well as break through not very thick ice. According to him, many submarines of the Northern Fleet have dents in the deckhouses, which appear just from breaking the ice.

On February 15, political scientist Yuri Svetov, in an interview with Izvestia, commented on the situation with a German icebreaker stuck in the Arctic ice, saying that the Russian icebreaking fleet has sufficient capacity and is able to pass through the thickest ice. According to the political scientist, both the European states and the United States do not have such powerful nuclear icebreakers.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
