The F-16 fighter jet that crashed in Turkey was lifted into the sky due to an unknown object on the border. This was announced on February 26 by the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the country, Zeki Akturk.

"Two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled as a precautionary measure after an unidentified object was detected on radar on the border with Bulgaria," the Turkish newspaper BirGün quoted him as saying.

It is noted that against this background, two F-16 fighters were lifted into the air, but communication with one of the aircraft was lost shortly after the start of the operation. Akturk added that the pilot showed heroism by using the ejection system at the last moment to leave the plane, but still could not survive.

At the same time, the wreckage of the aircraft was quickly found after the start of the search and rescue operation.

The day before, it was reported that one person was killed in the crash of an F-16 fighter jet in the Turkish city of Balikesir. The Turkish Ministry of Defense noted that the pilot of the plane was killed in the incident.
