One of the key problems of the Russian car market is the lack of affordable foreign cars, Sergey Tselikov, General Director of Autostat, said on February 26 at the ForAuto-2026 conference.

According to him, over the past ten years, their market share has decreased from 33% to 2%.

"We are talking about such models as Renault Logan, Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, VW Polo, Skoda Rapid. They occupied a significant market share and ensured overall growth," he said.

According to Sergey Tselikov, car factories need to introduce affordable models into their product lines as soon as possible. This, even at the current level of effective demand, can give the market an additional 150-200 thousand new cars annually, said Sergey Tselikov.

The day before, it became known that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation submitted to the government a complete list of localized cars for taxi work. According to Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the list has been submitted to the government and may be reviewed and approved in the near future. He clarified that the Haval brand, whose cars are manufactured in Russia, was also included in this list.
