- A captured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told about the escape of the commander during the battle in the Kharkiv region
Sergei Bidny, a captured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who was captured in the Kharkiv region, said that the unit commander abandoned him and his colleagues during the storming of positions by the Russian army. Footage of the captured militant is published by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 26.
"We were told to go to the position, they say, we need to change the guys, they defended there for about four days. Of the seven people, there are three of them left...> They also gave us a sergeant to take with us. The four of us went, changed those guys, we spent the night there, the next morning the shooting started, the assault began. The sergeant said: "I'm running to the command post," I ran away, in short," he said.
After that, as the militant recalls, his group suffered losses. The remaining military began to lean towards voluntary captivity, however, remembering the "horror stories" told by the chiefs about the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, they did not dare to take this step. Then they were contacted by one of the Russian military personnel, who dispelled their fears and gave guarantees of security.
"Guys (Russian military. — Ed.) They treated me well — they gave me snickers and chewed the meat. Well, everything was fine. A snowmobile arrived, and when we passed the border, a Baba Yaga arrived (a drone used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. — Ed.). <...> We were told that Russians do not take prisoners, <...> it is better to die in battle immediately than to surrender. In fact, it turned out the opposite," concluded Bidny.
The prisoner called on his comrades to "not engage in nonsense" and lay down their weapons.
Data from the radio interception on February 16 also testified to the commander leaving a wounded colleague on the line of combat contact in the Zaporizhia region. A militant with the call sign Zhorik convinced the leadership of the need to abandon a comrade who could not move.
On February 26, Nikolai Kolisov, an attack aircraft commander of the 5th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Center group of forces, said that in Dimitrov, Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), a Ukrainian militant had been persuading his colleagues to surrender throughout the night.
