British Ambassador to Georgia Gareth Ward has been summoned to the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the imposition of sanctions against Georgian Imedi and POSTV TV channels. This was announced on February 25 by Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili.

"We have been in contact with the British side. I expect the British ambassador to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow," she said in an interview with Rustavi 2 TV channel.

The Foreign Minister added that the Georgian side would demand explanations on what basis the decision to impose these sanctions was made.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said last December that the European Union itself should be interested in restoring relations with Georgia. He added that Georgia is the only country through which the Black Sea connects the Central Asian states with Europe, and given the geopolitical situation, Brussels is interested in entering new markets.
