- Germany announced that the issue of using Russian assets for Ukraine was removed from the agenda.
The topic of using Russia's frozen assets to help Ukraine has been removed from the agenda. This was announced on February 25 by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl at a press conference with his Belgian counterpart Maxime Prevost.
"There is currently a discussion about this (the use of assets of the Russian Federation. — Ed.) was completed thanks to very good spare tools," Vadefulh said, and a video of the press conference was posted on the YouTube channel of the German Foreign Ministry.
He noted that a loan of €90 billion has already been initiated in Europe for Ukraine, so there is no need to use Russian assets yet. At the same time, according to him, the discussion about this may resume when compensation for damage to Kiev is discussed.
On February 1, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the leaders of the European Union countries were deceiving the population of their countries when they said that loans issued to Ukraine would allegedly be paid for at the expense of Russian assets. According to the documents of the European Commission (EC), about €210 billion of assets of the Central Bank of Russia are blocked in the EU, while the volume of private assets of Russians and businesses blocked in the association is about €28 billion.
