Experts assessed the situation with counterfeit auto parts
Every second Russian consumer (50%) has at least once encountered the purchase of counterfeit spare parts. On February 25, Izvestia was informed about this by the press service of Engels Spark Plugs LLC.
The main distribution channels for counterfeit products were auto parts markets (25%) and specialty stores (23%). According to a company representative, inspections of offline points of sale revealed a catastrophic quality assurance situation. In 80% of cases, there was no certificate for the product, in another 19% the sellers refused to present it, and only in 1% of cases the document was provided.
Spark plugs are one of the most counterfeit product categories among automotive components. According to a study by the NSCC under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the total share of illegal product turnover reaches 74%, and in the online environment it exceeds 90%.
Engels Spark Plugs LLC said that it had come across a fake Chinese-made brand that was almost indistinguishable from the original EZ trademark.
Extending the terms of the experiment on labeling automotive components until August 31, 2026 will allow for significantly more time to prepare for mandatory requirements, the company believes. The experiment on labeling automotive components started on February 25, 2025. Digital labeling helps manufacturers and suppliers of automotive components minimize illegal traffic.
In November last year, it became known that the government of the Russian Federation expanded the list of products in an experiment on labeling auto parts in the state system "Honest sign". Manufacturers, importers, and sellers of spark plugs for buses, wheels, and rims, as well as brake pads and discs, will be able to participate in the experiment. Prior to this, the marking applied to oil filters, spark plugs, windshields and other windows.
