- The chief architect of the Ministry of Defense proposed to create a catalog of images and ornaments of the regions
In Russia, in order to form the image of the modern architectural identity of the country and the architectural and visual image of the epoch, it is proposed to develop a catalog of regional images and ornaments. This idea was expressed by Alexandra Kuzmina, Deputy Chairman of the Expert Council and Chief architect of the Moscow Region.
"Architecture, apart from its various functions, is a materialized policy, an ideology in stone. Buildings, cities, especially memorial and park ensembles, accurately convey the features of the time of creation, the essence of the events that took place, the most significant, those that determine both the life and thinking of the era, those that will remain in memory for centuries," Kuzmina is quoted on the website of the government of the Moscow region.
The proposal was made yesterday during a meeting of the Board of the Expert Council on Architecture and Urban Planning. Kuzmina's idea was supported by Alexey Zharich, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of the Russian Federation for Public Projects, who suggested creating similar catalogs in different areas.
"An excellent proposal to create a national catalog of characteristic images and ornaments of the regions. The knowledge bases that are being formed will be invaluable methodological recommendations for developers. Such catalogs need to be developed in different directions," the press service of the Moscow Region government quotes him as saying.
In addition, Kuzmina made proposals on the main areas of the Council's work and the creation of working groups on the topics of identity in typical mass housing construction and its impact on identity, budget facilities as pilot examples of the "Russian style". Following the meeting, specialized working groups will be involved in the development of the national architectural code of Russia. And all received proposals and initiatives will be integrated into further joint work.
In October 2025, it was reported that the architects of the P. Lumumba Rudn University and the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering proposed a project for prefabricated temporary residential modules for the Arctic, which do not stand on the ground, but float in the air. According to the developers, houses should be resistant to extreme weather conditions, energy efficient, easy to transport and have aesthetic appeal.
