- Analysts have pointed to the benefits of watching videos in the fight against anxiety
Watching videos is a way for 71% of the surveyed users to relieve anxiety, and for another 82% — to feel calm under severe stress. These conclusions were reached by VK Video analysts, whose research was reviewed by Izvestia on February 26.
"Most often, users under the age of 25 watch videos to relieve anxiety — in 85% of cases, young people turn on videos to cope with stress. The same category of users is better than others at directly addressing viewers as "you" in videos. Among those who use VK Video to reduce anxiety, 75% consider the content of the service to be very effective," the experts noted.
It turned out that a quarter of the respondents experience a high level of anxiety, the main causes of which are mainly financial problems (45%), the global situation (44%) and health problems (34%). At the same time, among such categories as women and young people, unrest was most often found in connection with negative beliefs about themselves and educational and work issues, respectively.
In order to overcome destructive feelings, Russians most often watch humorous videos and challenges. The second largest group of formats included documentary, scientific and historical videos, as well as cozy videos featuring animals and everyday subjects. Horror, criminology, and true-edge are not among the top calming content — they are watched, on the contrary, to shift attention.
Users prefer videos that give them a sense of security — 11% find it in a predictable scenario and repetitive structure of the video, 17% in unexpected plot developments, and only 4% in sudden changes in the pace of narration. Most citizens prefer content devoid of pressure and harsh effects, created using a soft tone.
The survey was conducted among over 1,000 respondents using an online questionnaire.
On January 30, Medical Xpress magazine, citing researchers from the University of Arkansas, reported that young people with signs of anxiety who receive emotional support through social media are significantly less likely to experience symptoms of this condition. On January 23, the same publication learned about the ability of 24 minutes of listening to music to reduce anxiety. It was specified that the compositions should be audiostimulated with rhythms.
