In Kazan, a man was sentenced to 24 years in prison for attempting to set fire to a defense industry facility.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Tatarstan has sentenced a resident of Kazan to 24 years in prison for treason and an attempt to set fire to a military-industrial complex facility. This was reported on the instance's website on February 25.

"[The man] was sentenced to 24 years in prison, of which he will serve five years in prison, and the rest of the sentence will be in a high—security penal colony. Additional penalties in the form of restriction of liberty and a fine have also been imposed," the statement said.

It is noted that the person in question, in the period from 2023 to 2024, was engaged in espionage and assistance to a foreign organization, was trained in the interests of two pro-Ukrainian foreign organizations to commit sabotage activities in the Russian Federation, and was also preparing to blow up and set fire to facilities of the organization of the Kazan military-industrial complex.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the accused in accordance with art. 275 ("High treason"), art. 281.2 ("Undergoing training in order to carry out sabotage activities"), art. 281 ("Sabotage") and art. 222.1 ("Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, transfer or carrying of explosives substances or explosive devices") THE Criminal Code OF THE Russian Federation.

On February 25, representatives of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation told Izvestia about the arrest in the Krasnodar Territory of an attacker who planned to commit a terrorist attack at a military airfield. He intended to set fire to the plane on the instructions of employees of the Ukrainian special services. The FSB opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes under Part 1 of Article 30 of the Criminal Code ("Preparation for a crime and attempted crime"), paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code ("Preparation for a terrorist act"), Article 275 of the Criminal Code ("Treason"). The defendant faces life imprisonment.
