The doctor named the symptoms of swine flu and preventive measures.
Swine flu is manifested by a sharp increase in fever, chills, dry cough and sore throat, and you should consult a doctor at the first symptoms. Olga Shuppo, founder and scientific director of the Grand Clinic network of immunorehabilitation, adaptive and preventive medicine clinics, told Izvestia on February 25.
According to her, swine flu manifests itself in the same way as seasonal flu: a sharp increase in temperature, chills, body aches, severe headache, weakness, dry cough and sore throat without a severe runny nose. If such signs appear, it is necessary to consult a doctor to clarify the diagnosis and select therapy.
The expert stressed that in order to maintain the body's protective functions, it requires adequate sleep, reduced stress levels, a balanced diet and a sufficient amount of seasonal vegetables and fruits. Of particular importance is vitamin D, which is often deficient in the off-season. His admission, according to the specialist, should be carried out in dosages determined by the doctor based on the tests.
"It is necessary to ensure that the diet is always complete. Many people skip meals due to lack of time at work or stress, or as a result of trying to lose weight. And this is a big mistake. For example, protein has a very strong effect on the quality of immune protection, in fact, it acts as a building tool for immune cells," the expert noted.
To reduce the risk of infection, it is important to observe hygiene: after visiting public places, wash your hands thoroughly, if necessary, rinse your nose and throat with saline solution, and leave outerwear outside the living quarters, noted Shuppo.
"We bring the virus on our clothes, so, at least at home, we should try to leave clothes in the dressing room at the entrance. There should be no outerwear in the bedroom. At the peak of the pandemic, many people used special quartz lamps, those that can be used in residential areas. Such equipment really cleans the air and surfaces, and its use at home or in offices is quite effective for disinfection during a period of increased viral load," she concluded.
On February 24, Rospotrebnadzor reported an increase in the proportion of influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 (swine flu) and type B viruses in Russia, these strains may provoke a new wave of the disease in the spring. It was clarified that in the eighth week of 2026, only 750 thousand cases of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections were recorded in the Russian Federation. The indicator is comparable to the beginning of October 2025.
