The world is facing serious challenges in the field of global governance, according to a report by the Xinhua Institute published on February 24 on the news agency's website.

It is noted that global changes of unprecedented scale are currently accelerating, and the international balance of power is undergoing a profound restructuring. Thus, the report says, the world has entered a new era of turbulence and transformation — unilateralism, protectionism and hegemonism are intensifying, while the need for peace, development, security and governance continues to grow.

According to the Xinhua Institute, the problems of the global governance system related to "authority, representation and efficiency" are becoming more and more tangible, and the international economic and trade order is facing serious challenges. The global economy lacks a driving force for growth.

A new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation generates new growth factors, but at the same time exacerbates the management deficit, the document says.

"In the context of these processes, the reform and improvement of the global governance system has become a top priority for the international community," the report emphasizes.

The Xinhua Institute added that due to the current situation, the role of the United Nations should be strengthened, not weakened. According to the report, the UN is a central platform for the practice of multilateralism and the promotion of global governance. Other international and regional multilateral mechanisms should develop their strengths, play a constructive role and avoid any discriminatory or exclusionary arrangements, the document says.

On February 3, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper reported that Russia, India and China could play a key role in weakening Western hegemony and accelerating the transition to a multipolar world. The publication focuses on Russia's proposal to step up trilateral cooperation with India and China. This proposal was made earlier by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who noted that relations between the three countries are of a strategic nature. According to him, this cooperation can become an important element of the new global architecture.
