Skiers Korostelev and Nepryaeva refused to participate in the World Cup in the USA
Russian skiers Savely Korostelev and Daria Nepryaeva will not compete at the final stage of the World Cup in Lake Placid, USA. This was announced on February 25 by the head coach of the Russian national team Egor Sorin.
"Such an opportunity (to go to the USA. Theoretically, there is, but we figured it would be a very difficult flight, and the trip as a whole would be expensive. Just in order to participate in the three starts at the World Cup, where they have already performed a lot this season, we decided to give up," Sorin told RIA Novosti.
He also noted that the athletes need to do some work before the Russian Cup Final in Kirovsk. The coach explained that if the athletes had gone to the United States, they would not actually have been ready to run in Kirovsk, so this decision was made.
The final, 12th stage of the World Cup will be held in the USA from March 20 to 22. The final start of the Russian Cup in Kirovsk will take place from March 28 to April 5.
Nepryaeva finished 11th at the 2026 Olympic Games on February 22, losing to the winner, Sweden's Ebbe Andersson, in 8 minutes 55.2 seconds. It was noted that Norwegian Heidi Weng took second place, lagging 2 minutes 15.3 seconds, while Swiss Nadia Kelin took third place, lagging 6 minutes 41.5 seconds. However, her result was later annulled due to an athlete's mistake during the race. She drove into a box reserved for another participant and put on the skis of German representative Katharina Hennig.
Korostelev took fifth place in the mass start on February 21, completing his performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics. On February 10, the athlete took part in the classic style sprint, taking 35th place. Three days later, on February 13, Korostelev entered the 10 km freestyle, finishing 15th.
