Zakharova pointed to the flirtation of Britain and France on the topic of nuclear weapons with Ukraine

France and the United Kingdom, building manipulative plans to transfer nuclear weapons to Ukraine, are flirting with the Kiev regime on this issue. This was announced on Wednesday, February 25, by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"Britain and France <...> are flirting with it (the issue. — Ed.) with the Kiev regime," she said on Sputnik radio.

Zakharova clarified that the initiators of the potential transfer of such weapons to the Ukrainian side are in the process of manipulation "no longer in a rhetorical, but in practical terms."

The plans of France and Great Britain will seriously complicate the dialogue on alternatives to the START Treaty.

On February 24, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) announced plans by London and Paris to secretly transfer nuclear weapons to Kiev. After that, the Federation Council called on the French and British sides to conduct parliamentary investigations, and the chairman of this instance, Valentina Matvienko, stressed that Ukraine's status as a nuclear-weapon-free state was not subject to revision.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 24 that his government's opponents, who "do not disdain any means," understand how an attempt to use nuclear weapons could end. He added that Western countries are trying to disrupt the peace negotiation process in this way.

The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN) Vasily Nebenzia later clarified that Russia is capable of rebuffing potential actions by France and Britain. He called their plans "irresponsible, dangerous and illegal." A corresponding opinion was expressed by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, who stressed that the country would be forced to use any weapon against targets in Ukraine that pose a threat to it.
