Zakharova asked von der Leyen about the meaning of Ukraine's membership in the EU
The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, who insistently invites Ukraine to become a member of the European Union (EU) and notes its success on the path to joining the European family, probably does not interpret the word "membership" quite traditionally. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, pointed this out on February 24.
The diplomat quoted the head of the European Commission, in which she says that the path to Ukraine's membership in the EU "depends not only on its merits, but also on the speed of the candidate country." According to von der Leyen, Kiev manages to implement all the reforms with stunning speed and achieve progress along the way.
"Now I would like to clarify what gynecologist von der Leyen means by the word "membership," Zakharova wrote in her Telegram channel.
On February 24, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky demanded that the West set a date for Ukraine's accession to the EU in 2027. The head of the Kiev regime again stressed that the entry of the Ukrainian side into the association should take place no later than 2027.
At the same time, the European Parliament reported on February 10 that they did not see any prospects for Ukraine's accession to the European Union in the near future.
