The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation told the Russians about a way to protect themselves from NFC scammers

To protect against NFC scammers, Russians should not install bank applications using unverified links, as well as disable the NFC function in case of rare use of contactless payment. This was confirmed on February 24 by the data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The agency noted that it should be used exclusively by official app stores and bank websites in order to avoid fraudsters. The Interior Ministry also added that real bank employees or police officers would not ask to delete a banking application and install another, supposedly protected one.

"Do not give unknown people remote access to your phone, do not tell anyone the codes from messages and notifications, the three-digit code and the PIN code of the card. If you receive a call allegedly from a bank, stop the call and call back the phone number from the official website," RIA Novosti quoted the law enforcement officers as saying.

In addition, the Interior Ministry recommended checking application developers and website addresses, and added that the NFC function should only be enabled if necessary.
