Britain's accusations against Russia were attempts to create a false trail in the case of American financier Jeffrey Epstein. This was announced on February 23 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

To her Telegram channel post, she attached a quote from The Times newspaper, according to which the flight logs of the Royal Air Force (RAF) with information about the movements of Epstein's private jet were deleted after just three months, which led to problems in finding the financier's victims, who were transported to Britain.

"Taking into account the scale of the crimes of the British elites and their cross—border nature, a false or, as Prince Harry likes to say, a 'backup' trail was always needed," Zakharova wrote.

Former British Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who renounced the title of Duke of York and all relevant honors on October 17, 2025, following the discovery of his name in Epstein's files, was detained on February 19 and released from custody on the same day.

It was noted that the ex-prince denied his guilt. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on February 20 that Andrew was arrested for sending confidential government documents to Epstein.

Zakharova said on February 23 that the scandal surrounding Prince Andrew had exposed a real "circus of freaks" in Britain's elite. Commenting on the former prince's ties to Epstein, she stressed that all British intelligence agencies were aware of his actions and hid it.
