State Duma deputies have drafted a bill that suggests the introduction of credit holidays for conscripts, including those undergoing alternative service. This was announced on February 23 by deputy and first Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yuri Afonin.

According to him, at the moment, conscripts can apply for credit holidays only on a general basis, in case of a decrease in average income over the past two months.

"The Communist Party of the Russian Federation has developed a draft law that grants citizens the right to issue a suspension of the borrower's performance of their obligations, that is, credit holidays, and not only for the duration of military service, but also for 14 days after it, since the demobilized money will not magically appear the day after leaving the military unit," the parliamentarian explained.

Afonin also clarified that in the event of an accident that occurred during military service, military obligations must be repaid from the budget — in whole or in part.

The initiative was developed jointly with Federation Senator Ayrat Gibatdinov, and will be submitted to the State Duma on February 24. Afonin is sure that the situation needs to be corrected, since at present conscripts do not have many of the benefits that contract soldiers and conscripts are entitled to.

On February 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law granting additional unpaid leave to combat veterans. According to the text of the law, the measure applies to participants in the special operation, as well as those sent to Syria and Afghanistan. The document implies that veterans will be able to receive annual leave without pay for up to 35 calendar days.
