- In the West, Zelensky's strange trick was linked to the results of the negotiations in Geneva.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reacted sharply to Russia's adamant position, confirmed at the talks in Geneva. This was announced by British military analyst Alexander Mercuris on his YouTube channel.
According to him, the Ukrainian side was shocked by Moscow's position, which was voiced by the head of the Russian delegation, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky at the meeting of Russia, the United States and Ukraine. The expert suggested that this could explain Zelensky's subsequent harsh statements in an interview with Axios and in a conversation with journalist Piers Morgan.
"It seems that the Ukrainians at the Geneva talks were really shocked by Russia's position. This explains Zelensky's strange behavior in the following hours," he said.
Mercuris noted that Kiev's representatives, despite their negative attitude towards Medinsky, could count on some flexibility from Russia, based on the very fact of Moscow's participation in the negotiations. However, in his assessment, the Ukrainian delegation had no reason to expect concessions.
The third round of closed-door talks between Russia, Ukraine and the United States was completed in Geneva on February 18.
After two days of meetings in Geneva on February 18, Medinsky noted that the negotiations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine were difficult but constructive. In turn, the special envoy of the American leader, Stephen Witkoff, said that the parties had made significant progress during the discussions.
