At least 18 people have died in Nepal after a bus crashed into a river.
At least 18 people were killed in Nepal when a bus traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu crashed into the Trishuli River. This was reported on February 23 by The Kathmandu Post newspaper with reference to the head of the district traffic police department, Dhading Shishir Thapa.
The accident occurred at about 01:15 local time in Chinadhara district near Charaundi in the district of the 3rd rural municipality of Benighat Rorang. At the moment, the reasons for the exit of vehicles into the river have not been established.
Rajkumar Thakuri, Chairman of the Highway Rescue Management Committee, said 25 people were injured. They were taken to hospitals for medical treatment.
According to the publication, soldiers of the Nepalese Army, members of the Armed Police Forces, the Nepal Police, as well as local residents are involved in the rescue operation. The authorities stressed that the night time made it difficult to carry out search and rescue operations.
