During Lent, lay people are usually advised to abstain from meat, eggs, milk and dairy products, as well as, with the exception of a few days, fish. This was announced on February 23 by the head of the educational committee of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Maxim Kozlov.

"What exactly is recommended not to eat for lay people: usually it's meat, eggs, milk and dairy products, fish — except for two days — the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (always April 7 — Ed.) and the feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (in 2026 — April 5 — Ed.)," explained Kozlov."RIA Novosti".

The priest recalled that the monastic rule implies stricter restrictions, including the use of oil and dry eating on certain days.
