Protests took place in Verona before the closing ceremony of the 2026 Olympic Games (OI-2026). This was reported by RBC on February 22.

"The protesters took to the streets of the city with posters and used smoke bombs. Flags of Palestine were also visible at the protests," the publication says.

It is noted that several hundred people took part in the action.

"According to Ekaterina, a resident of the city who has lived in Verona for about 12 years, many citizens are dissatisfied with the organization of the Olympic Games in Italy. She claims that some residents do not see the positive consequences of holding a sporting event," the portal noted.

In particular, the infrastructure was not significantly reconstructed, and tickets to the competitions cost quite a lot, which was unaffordable for many residents of the country.

The OI-2026 closing ceremony became known on the same day. The event takes place in the Arena di Verona amphitheater, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.
