Sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev, in a conversation with the Sport-Express newspaper on February 22, commented on the disqualification of Russian skier Daria Nepryaeva in the marathon at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

"So what? What has changed? Did we lose the medal? There are no small things at the Olympics. You need to keep your head in good shape. Perhaps this was due to a loss of concentration," Guberniev said.

A 23-year-old Russian woman drove into someone else's box during the race and put on the skis of German athlete Katharina Hennig. Initially, Nepryaeva finished 11th, but after completing the marathon, her result was annulled.

Daria Nepryaeva said on the same day that the first Olympics in her life had given her a lot of experience and shown her what she needed to work on. She also added that she takes into account every mistake she has made and understands what else needs to be worked on.

Russian athletes won one medal at the 2026 Olympics. The only winner of the award was mountaineer Nikita Filippov, who won silver in the sprint. In the final, the 23-year-old Russian showed a result of 2 minutes 35.5 seconds, losing to Spaniard Oriol Cardona Kohl.
