An underground poker club has been shut down in Novosibirsk
In Novosibirsk, police officers liquidated an illegal poker club operating in the basement of an apartment building on Deputatskaya Street. This was reported on February 22 in the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Novosibirsk region.
"During the operational search activities, employees of the Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Novosibirsk region, together with colleagues from the Police Department No. 2 "Zheleznodorozhny" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Novosibirsk, received information that an underground poker club was operating on the basement floor of the house on Deputatskaya Street," it says. in the Telegram channel of the department.
It is noted that at the time of the inspection, the organizers, the service staff and 13 visitors were in the room. According to the police, the members of the club observed measures of secrecy. The games were played with the participation of croupiers, and bar services were also provided to visitors. The premises were rented and equipped for gambling.
Three residents of Novosibirsk, aged 33, 34 and 38, were detained on suspicion of organizing illegal activities. They had not previously been brought to criminal responsibility.
During searches in the gaming hall and at the residential addresses of the defendants, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, a poker table, cards and chips, two televisions, a safe, as well as 560 thousand rubles in cash, documentation and other items of interest to the investigation were seized.
The investigative authorities have opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 171.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal organization and conduct of gambling"). The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the suspects.
Law enforcement agencies continue to identify possible accomplices in the illegal business.
Nina Gukasova, PhD in Economics, director of the program of the Federal Methodological Center for Improving Literacy at the Presidential Academy (RANEPA), said on February 19 that Russians would be warned about the risk of addiction in gambling advertising. The law aimed at combating gambling addiction will come into force on September 1. According to it, bookmakers, sweepstakes and casinos will be required to warn customers about the risk of developing ludomania.
