Orban urged Trump to continue efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has appealed to US President Donald Trump on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, urging him to "continue in the same spirit." The Hungarian leader posted the corresponding message on February 21 on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"Hungary is with you. Keep up the good work, Mr. President!" wrote Orban.
The Prime Minister noted that without the participation of the United States, it is impossible to achieve real peace between Russia and Ukraine. He expressed regret that the European Union (EU), in parallel with Washington's peace efforts, continues to "play with fire," which postpones the prospects for a settlement of the conflict.
On February 19, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted the inaccuracy of statements about the role of the United States in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. She noted that the current US administration "inherited" the Ukrainian conflict, which continues to receive support from the American side in the form of arms supplies to Kiev. The leadership of the United States is taking steps to find ways to resolve the crisis over Ukraine, which, according to Moscow, was initiated by Washington itself more than 10 years ago.
On February 17, Orban pointed out the misconceptions of EU leaders about the alleged possible victory of Ukraine. The prime minister also recalled that similar calculations had already been made in the past, including during the Second World War, but even then attempts to exhaust Russia did not bring the expected result.
