In the UK, a woman had her arms and legs amputated after contracting a bacterial infection, presumably from her dog. This was reported on February 20 by The Telegraph newspaper.
According to the publication, the bacteria entered the body through a minor scratch on the skin, which led to the development of severe sepsis. 52-year-old Manjit Sangha felt a sharp deterioration in her health a short time after walking with her pet. On Saturday, she had contact with the dog, and on Monday she was hospitalized and fell into a coma. Doctors diagnosed the patient with blood poisoning.
"She additionally struggled with pneumonia and cholelithiasis," the article says.
The Sangha spent eight months in a medical facility. During this time, she had six episodes of clinical death. During the treatment, doctors had to amputate both legs below the knees, both arms, and also remove the spleen.
